Common traffic ticket offences that can see you penalized by the Ontario points system on your driver's license are:

  • Excessive noise emanating from your vehicle while driving
  • Speeding according to the limit on the road on which you are fined
  • Driving without a valid driver's license
  • Disobeying a traffic sign put up by the province of Ontario
  • Parking infractions for disobeying parking signs or laws
  • Not having proof of valid insurance while driving
  • Public intoxication
  • Trespassing

If you have received a ticket, you can plead guilty and pay the fine, visit a court office to find out if you have more time to pay or request a trial. If you wish to discuss your Ontario traffic ticket and points with a qualified legal professional, this is best to find out what your next steps should be.

If you fail to deal with your traffic ticket or fine within the time frame that is set for you to pay it, which is usually 15 days after it is issued, a conviction may be brought in your absence .This can be done by a Justice of the Peace that reviews the case in your absence or failure to pay the fine.

A parking infraction ticket is a little different in that you can either pay the fine or challenge the ticket in the Ontario municipal court. Depending on what is stated on your ticket, you can mail it in or visit the location specified as a Provincial Offences Court in Ontario to challenge it.

All citizens and permanent residents of Ontario have the right to challenge their tickets in Court. At times, you may be able to meet with a prosecutor before the trial to see if the charge can be resolved. Meeting with a prosecutor in Ontario to deal with the traffic ticket can help you both come to a resolution.

A qualified legal consultant on Ontario traffic tickets and points can guide you on the process and how to deal with your ticket if you choose to meet with a prosecutor or challenge it.

Provincial offences that are regulated and considered to be non-criminal are:

  • Speeding
  • Careless driving
  • Not wearing your seatbelt while driving
  • Failing to surrender your valid insurance card or possessing an invalid insurance card

There are many other offences and fines that are not in the above list that you can be ticket for by the Ontario police of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation.
